Zur Bedeutung von Aids (The meaning of Aids)
Aids zählt zwar zu einer seltenen und nur schwer übertragbaren Krankheit. Der zumeist tödliche Krankheitsverlauf hat jedoch in den 80er und 90er Jahren zu einer enormen öffentlichen Problematisierung geführt. Wie alle Infektionskrankheiten verbreitet sich auch Aids nicht gleichförmig über alle Bevölkerungsgruppen hinweg. Die anfänglichen Risikogruppen sind inzwischen zu den sog. Hauptbetroffenengruppen avanciert. Zu einer dieser Gruppen zählen in Westeuropa und den USA die schwulen Männer. Deshalb habe ich in einer meiner ersten Veröffentlichung zu diesem Thema bereits 1986 erklärt, dass Aids in erster Linie ein Problem für die schwulen Männer darstellt und die schwule Emanzipationsbewegung gefordert ist, sich offensiv mit dieser Krankheit auseinander zu setzen. Diese Forderung hat bis heute nichts an ihrer Aktualität verloren. (Aids is a rare diseases transmitted only with great difficulty. The mostly fatal course of the illness led to enormous public concern in the 80’s and 90’s. As with all infectious diseases, Aids does not spread equally among all the groups in a population. In the meantime, the early risk-groups have advanced in importance and are now called the main-affected-groups. In western Europe and the USA gay men belong to one of these groups. For this reason, I declared in one of my publications on the subject in 1986, that Aids is first and foremost a problem posed to gay men and a challenge to the emancipation movement to get on the offensive and tackle the problem of this disease.
